These Texans really love their Yankees history.
The plaque celebrating where Aaron Judge belted his historic 62nd home run at Globe Life Field in 2022 has been stolen twice but will not be replaced again, according to Yankees announcer Justin Shackil.
The plaque had been replaced after the initial highjacking, per the report, but the Rangers apparently don’t feel the need to restore it and there is now just an empty slot with what appears to be some adhesive in front of section 31, row 1, seat 3 in the left-field stands.
Judge made history at the Rangers’ park on Oct. 4, 2022, when he set the American League record with a first-inning homer off Jesus Tinoco to break a tie with Roger Maris.
Texas decided to celebrate the grand occasion by installing a plaque on the elevated concrete in front of where the ball landed, as shown in an April 2023 tweet.
The plaque is titled “Judge’s seat.”
“On October 4, 2022, in the second game of a doubleheader at Globe Life Field, New York Yankees outfielder Aaron Judge connected for his 62nd home run of the season, establishing an American League record that had stood since 1961,” the plaque reads. “Judge hit his milestone blast, which landed in this location, off the Rangers’ Jesus Tinoco to lead off the first inning.”
That plaque may now be in someone’s basement as a grand piece of memorabilia, although the owner may want to keep quiet about possessing it.
Judge arrived in Texas this week with 51 homers on the season, and now seemingly will need a hot streak for the ages to match his record after a recent dry spell hit seven games Monday night.
The slugger is up to 33 plate appearances and 27 at-bats without a homer after he went 1-for-5 with an RBI double in Monday’s 8-4 win over the Rangers.
He will need 11 homers in 24 games to tie his record and 12 to set another standard.
